Microsoft teases first non-Nokia Lumia smartphone unveiling for November 11

| |
Microsoft is getting ready to unveil its first device under the Microsoft Lumia brand. According to a very short post on the Microsoft Mobile site, the news will drop on November 11, 2014.
This will be the first non-Nokia device from the company. All we know for sure right now is that one of the color options will be orange:

The entire announcement is just 20 words and a hashtag:
Microsoft is delivering the power of everyday mobile technology to everyone.
Come back on November 11, to find out more!

Microsoft’s tease comes two weeks after it confirmed Nokia Lumia would be rebranded as Mirosoft Lumia, a long expected and inevitable change. At the time, the company said it would be “unveiling a Microsoft Lumia device soon.”
As we noted then, “a” implied just one device and “soon” meant it might be available in time for the holiday season. Of course neither of those are set in stone; Microsoft could do something completely unexpected next Tuesday.
After all, the company has already shared shared two images showing off the Microsoft logo on mobile devices:

As we’ve already noted, Microsoft did not directly reference either of the images, but the message was clear: The Microsoft name will appear on at least the front or rear of Lumia devices. Maybe it will be both.
Based on recent rumors, we’re not expecting a high-end device. Chinese site Tenaa recently leaked alleged specs for a low-end smartphone called RM-1090:
  • 5-inch HD Screen
  • 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 chip
  • Dual-SIM
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB ROM
  • 5MP primary camera and VGA front camera
  • 1900mAh battery
  • Dimensions: 140.2×72.45×9.32(mm)
  • Weight: 145.7g
  • Frequency support: 900MHz, 1800MHz, 850MHz, 1900MHz
  • Colors: black, white, gray, blue, orange, blue, green
Clearly the orange confirms everything. Many expect this phone to be called the Lumia 525, though Microsoft could of course name it something else completely. Five more days, and we’ll have all the details.
