According to Nokia Australia, Bluetooth 4.0 LE support is not coming to high-end Lumia WP8 smartphones.
In response to a question from Gary C., about the status of Bluetooth 4.0 LE technology support, which was expected to come to all WP8 Lumias through a firmware update.
Nokia Australia noted that
“Bluetooth v4.0 Low Energy (LE) technology will not be available for Nokia Lumia 8xx, 9xx and 1020… due to hardware limitations”
Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy standard allows devices to stay paired longer without using a lot of energy. It is especially used to communicate with accessories like – heart rate monitors, fitness monitors like the Fitbit, and temperature sensors etc. Currently, the Lumia 520, 620, 625 and 720 reportedly support Bluetooth 4.0 LE, which can also work with the recently launched Adidas miCoach app and heart rate monitor.
Nokia over official Conversations blog has also pointed the limitation:
“The miCoach app also features Bluetooth compatibility with heart rate monitors from Adidas that you can purchase for use with the Lumia 520, 620, and 720.”
Recall, Nokia is expected to announce a new Bluetooth 4.0 LE enabled Treasure Tag accessory, along with the 6 new devices at Nokia World event on October 22nd.
