In addition to announcement of major WP8 OS update GDR3, Microsoft has also published the required application in the WPStore, allowing developers to update their GRD2 device to GDR3 (Update 3) immediately.
Although the preview program is designated only for “developers” (who’ve paid the registration fee), any current Windows Phone user can participate and update his device to latest GDR3 release. To get this update free you need to sign up or the free Windows Phone App Studio program.
Here are the steps:
- Sign up for the free App Studio program. You just need to sign in with your MS account and accept the terms and conditions at the site.
- Make sure your device is running latest OS release (currently 8.0.10322.71).
- Download the ‘Preview for Developers‘ app from the Windows Phone Store.
- Open the app, accept the terms and conditions. Sign in with the MS account you registered with at the App Studio program.
- After that, head into the settings of your phone and go the phone update section and do a check.
- Follow the regular phone update procedure to update your device to latest available OS build.
